Just like you can't cheat on a test, you can't take someone's digital work and call it your own. Having the internet at our fingertips allows people to find exactly what they are looking for online. When doing research online, we must be aware of how we use the information that we find. Our work must be unique and our sources must be cited correctly for any information that we may have had to borrow.

What is Fair Use?

Copyright Infringement: Is against the law and is when someone uses a protected work in a way that violates the rights of the owner. This could be through reproducing or distributing work without permission from the owner (

Plagiarism: This happens when you use somebody else's work as your own without properly citing the source (McCord)

Fair Use: Fair use is using copyrighted material under certain conditions without getting permission from the copyright owner, i.e educational purposes (Office of the General Counsel)
